⭐ tell us about La-La Narf!! I loved that one!!
Oh jeez, La-La Narf.
La-La Narf is the greatest, longest, most popular fic I’ve ever written for any fandom, and I doubt I’ll ever get to that level again. It’s my Magnum Opus haha. When I wrote it it was for a fandom of like seven people and it never occurred to me that the fandom would grow and so many people would read it. I still don’t know how to feel whenever I see that fic on memes within the fandom, it’s both the mortifying ordeal of being known™ and really really flattering at the same time. It’s weird.
But, back to the fic:
La-La Narf was inspired by La Resistance, among others. I just loved those long ass fics with toon characters like in Roger Rabbit, but most of them were about kidnappings for some reason, very few involved the mice, and not a single one of them, to my knowledge, was romantic. So I basically wrote the fic I wanted to read, A long ass fic about the complexities of a Hollywood system where toons are treated both like celebrities and lower class.
The Main thing with La-La Narf was that I really wanted Brain to acknowledge that Pinky is too damn powerful. And then he realizes he can be just as powerful, just as funny, and that he’s allowed to have more than one interest. So that’s Brain’s arc. Pinky’s arc was more about him getting a better grasp of his toon powers and learn to use them. Brain was more about concepts (accepting that he can be more than the system tells him) and Pinky about symbols (newspaper roses, glittery bows, the color blue), but the theme in both is dreams. La La Narf is, at its core, about dreams.
It’s also the first and only time I’ve written the Warner siblings and it was super fun! Especially Yakko. I based the narration for the Warner siblings on Lemony Snicket’s The Reptile Room, specifically, because both the Baudelaire and the Warners discover a weird mansion and a really sweet and eccentric parent figure (Uncle Monty and Spielberg, respectively)
My favorite scenes are the Camptown Races song, that still gets stuck inside my brain from time to time, and the scene where Pinky ponders in front of his giant promotional cardboard while Brain secretly watches.
Thank you so much for asking, @impeccably-imbecilic ! I love talking about La-La Narf, it’s my favorite fic that I’ve written.
(sorry for the formatting, I’m on mobile)
