Chiron's death made front page in The Daily Messenger today...
That labour went horribly.
I successfully managed to sway Pholus into serving me the wine he kept in his house, but the nearby centaurs caught scent of the wine. A stampede of crazed centaurs came charging toward Pholus' home.
How could I have known that that would happen?
I tried to fend them off, and eventually began to shoot poisoned arrows into the crowd. It dispersed the stampede but I hit my childhood mentor, Chiron, as I did so.
Seeing him writhe in such agony as the poison set into his veins was unbearable. The age-old centaur gave up his immortality so that he did not have to continue suffering. To make matters worse, Pholus became poisoned by one of my arrows as he tried to heal another centaur. He collapsed before I could even hope to heal him.
It was a tragic outcome, but it was the fate that the gods decided.
After burying Chiron and Pholus, I caught the "vicious" boar with ease and returned him to King Eurystheus, who still cowers whenever I come near.
... I do not feel much like celebrating this victory.
That did not go how I had planned...
I just received news of my next labour. I am to capture the fierce boar that lives in the Erymanthus mountains.
I have sent word to the centaurs who live in the mountains that I will be arriving shortly. I hope that I will be able to visit with some of my old friends, especially my mentor, Chiron.
