has a member of the mod team ever encountered a clinic that does in-house lab work for things like ACTH suppression or dexamethasone stimulation tests, and does this sometimes translate to lower patient fees?
gettingvetted here.
I would say that if those tests were offered in-house, it would pretty much only be available at a specialty hospital. I’m pretty sure it’s because the machines that do those tests are a lot larger than the typical in-house machines (and therefore harder to fit into a normal vet clinic) and would be more expensive than a normal bloodwork machine. And all of this would be for a test that is usually only run a handful of times a month (vs multiple times daily for other types of bloodwork). So no, having these tests available in-house would not likely be less expensive.
