Also White Conservative who think it’s only the Aboriginal who can get affected by oil company and not some white folk in some village who loose 47 people because oil company wanted to make it cheaper so instead of 3 people to control a 80 wagon of petrol, they decided to let only one person control the train and when one of the employee filled a repport to say what was wrong with the train, the CEO of that oil company told him politely to fuck off.  :)))

Lac-Mégantic Mayor Calls Out ‘Bird Box’ for Using Rail Disaster Footage

Netflix’s 'Bird Box' and a sci-fi show called 'Travelers' used footage of the Lac-Mégantic disaster, which claimed 47 lives in 2013.

The mayor of a Quebec town that suffered a train derailment and explosion which killed nearly 50 people six years ago is upset that footage of the disaster was used in Bird Box, Netflix’s record-breaking hit film.

In the summer of 2013, a train carrying 74 cars of crude oil derailed near the town centre of Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. Several of the runaway rail cars exploded and for hours a hellish fire burned in the town. In the end, 47 people lost their lives and almost half of the town's downtown core (30 buildings) were destroyed.

It stands as one of the worst rail disasters in Canadian history.

Canadian MPs condemn Netflix for using Lac-Megantic images in Bird Box

The motion also demands that Netflix pay compensation to the community of Lac-Megantic for using the disaster for entertainment purposes with no concern for the trauma it would cause to survivors and victims’ families.

Canadian members of Parliament have passed a unanimous motion condemning Netflix for using images of the Lac-Megantic rail disaster in fictional dramas and demanding financial compensation for the Quebec community for using the tragic images without consent.

The motion is a stern rebuke from Canada’s Parliament aimed at the online streaming giant, after footage from the 2013 rail explosion that killed 47 people was used in the hit movie Bird Box and the series Travelers.

Netflix has apologized for using the images, saying it was not aware of the source of the footage, and has agreed to take steps to avoid using it in future productions.

But the company has refused to remove the images from Bird Box, a disaster movie released late last year.

Plusieurs orateurs ont adressé la parole, dont le maire de la ville, M. Gédéon Fillion, MM. les curé Poulin, V. F., et Joseph Gingras, et M. Redmond Hayes, le conférencier invité, et trois films ont été présentés.

Tous ont fait un vibrant appel aux citoyens de la région leur demandant de souscrire généreusement afin d'aider les forces armées du Canada à recevoir les armes et munitions dont elles ont besoin.

Les mineurs d'amiante et les employés des autres compagnies de la région font preuve d'une grande générosité et d'un grand enthousiasme. La première mine à dépasser son objectif est la British Canadian Mines Ltd, de Black Lake, qui vient de souscrire la somme de $19,400, avec 211 souscripteurs. L'objectif de $19,337 fut souscrit des la quatrième journée. Parmi les autres souscriptions, citons celles des employés de Lynn McLeod Metallurgy Ltd, qui s'élèvent à $7,000; la maison A. Setlakwe & Fils Enrg.. $1,950; la maison Dubé & Frère, $700 la Ferronnerie Demers Ltée, $1.100.

D'autre part, une cérémonie solennelle a eu lieu dimanche dernier à Laurierville, alors que M. l'abbé G.-D. Demers bénit deux drapeaux de l'emprunt, dont l'un a été arboré à Laurierville, et l'autre à Ste-Julie Station.

Le comité local de l'emprunt a lancé sa campagne et tout laisse prévoir que l'objectif de $13,000 sera atteint. Au dernier emprunt, Laurierville souscrivait la somme de $11,300, soit 188.3 p. c. de l'objectif fixé.
