Burnt as a moth to a flame am I to Eire's name.
Burnt as a moth to a flame am I to Eire’s name.
What a fool am I to be burnt again by Joyce’s Sirens’ cries. To the core burnt am I and to the core of unbridled hopes have I let my hopes burn dreams once so bright. Held hope high from another of my kind Hope held high from another of my kind from one unasked touch that led to another wanted more. Dreams of Eire though now died lie away on the shore of Holyhead and never will I travel there…

It was a common enough story. Girl and boy meet. Girl and boy start to hang out. Girl and boy become a thing, though not too serious for boy is going to leave. (someone's always going to leave) Girl and boy get intimate. Girl and boy love each other. (though they are not "in love". not yet anyways) Girl and boy have uneven hearts. (but they don't care, the honest affection is there) But the day of leaving comes. They must say goodbye. The end. A common enough story, yes? (so why does it still hurt so much) "it doesn't matter if you want it back, you've given it away"

Ok so what about things like Mean Girls. I don’t know what kinds of girls you went to high school with, but mean girls existed at mine. To write a story about that, is that mysoginist?
Look, I can't answer questions like that for you. It's too generalizing. Mean girls exist, sure. Bullies exist, male and female. You need to ask questions like:
How are they portrayed? What's the source of them being mean? What kind of environment does the story take place in?
Is this a story by a man cracking jokes about the vanity of women? Who's the storyteller?
Who's the target audience, and are those treated with respect?
If it's supposed to be satire, does it question the system, or does it make fun off people who can't defend themselves?
Basically, who are we supposed to laugh about and why? And who wants us to laugh about whom? What purpose does laughter under the circumstances fulfill? Whom does it give power? And whom does it weaken?
If you really want my personal opinion, then I'll give you the radical answer you can usually expect from me:
Yes. It is misogynistic to portray women as the main aggressors under any circumstances. Women, especially teenage girls at high school, do not create an oppressive system. They uphold the status quo, but the ones who really profit from that are boys. Divide and conquer. Women are vain! Divide and conquer. Women can't be friends! Divide and conquer! Girls have be cool but pretty but without putting too much work into being pretty but you can't sleep with guys except if he makes you sleep with him and then you totally wanted it but don't talk to other girls because they all just want to be popular except that one girl who's better than the rest, because as I said every other girl on this planet is vile. Oh, and once you crack open the shell a girl has built to protect herself (from other girls, of course because boys are no threat) then she'll immediately start dressing in nice colors and change her attitude and fall for the math geek xD
And never forget to make jokes about lesbians! Calling someone a lesbian is a serious offense!
Misogyny? I don't know what you're talking about.
Somewhere this post took a wrong turn and we landed in sarcasm land oops
Sometimes I really just want to fuck someone's brains out, but then I remember how ugly I am naked. Oh, well.
