She’d seen him when they first brought her in for questioning.

Not that Hailey hadn’t already told the cops everything she knew, but these agents wanted to hear the story from her rather than reports. And it wasn’t even much to begin with: Hailey had hidden pretty well, and the killers didn’t even suspect her presence because she was supposed to be out of the country until holidays. Hailey hadn’t seen much, but she heard something. Something about her dad’s shady business, which she hadn’t brought up for the police report. But now that the agents told her that her dad was dead, she found no reason to hide that information any longer.

She’d seen the guy she was introduced to now -- Leslie -- when she was brought in for interrogation. As it turns out, taking down the men who had business with her dad was Leslie’s job, and that meant he and Hailey would be having a talk.

Hailey shifted her weight and gave the man a tight smile. “So...” she began; then she went quiet. She had no idea where to start. Really, Hailey hardly had a mental grasp on this entire situation.
