There are two types of people in this world, those that are super jazzed about free food and those to whom the freeness of food is not a factor in their enjoyment of it. I’m not saying it is mars and venus but they are far, far apart.

How to live within your means (Hint: do not make a budget)
Its the key to getting out of debt (or never getting into it) as well as savings and long term wealth. Here's how I do it.
Split every bill in half. Rent, Cable, Cell, Electricity, Gym.
Set up automated bill pay through your bank for each bill (this is better than having to remember to pay though each individual website or god forbid, send a check). Most banks will let you send checks from automated bill pay. I do not own a checkbook and have not since 2009. I still pay my condo fee with a check - sent from my bank.
Pay 1/2 of each bill on the day you get paid. This allows you to know how much money is left over for eating, shopping, entertainment.
This method allows your bills to be paid first and keeps the rent from taking all of one paycheck, forcing you into artificial cash-poorness each month (where you may feel you need to use a credit card.)
Bonus Tip: At the same time you automate your bills, automate a deposit to your savings account. You can still use it if you need to, but if you do not, you will accumulate some savings.
