naruto was like my first anime so it was all so weird and magic to me like whatever it's anime weird stuff happens so when kankuro was introduced I literally thought he was some kind of a cat monster person thing and just shrieked at the screen WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT

PREFACE: THIS MIGHT NOT BE HELPFUL AT ALL

I hope this works

so first, I use Paint Tool Sai but I think a lot of the concepts can transfer to photoshop??? it's not super complicated anyway

your drawing

this can be scanned in or tablet drawn or whatever

I found an old naruto

haha jk it's not old because I'm a loser

anyway

set that shit to multiply

now poop on your drawing

i usually use dark brown because I'm too much of a wimp to use blues but this one is kinda ~purpley~

now on that layer just like

color on it

let the dark brown be your shades and color bright on the lightest parts

pretend you know where light and shadows go

if you're me you don't

I like flipping my canvas a lot so I can cry about how skewed I draw

I put a layer on top of the lineart sometimes to color on top because my lineart takes over and looks stupid and cluttered

manually erase all the brown because you hate yourself and have no idea how to use the selection tool or clipping masks, like me

(no for real if your sketch is clean you can get away with selecting the outside and just deleting it but when I try it always looks stupid so)

add appropriately nerdy background

now because you're me and you used ugly colors, cheat and put a color layer set to overlay to ~unify~ the piece colorwise

also if you're me you'll spend 50 hours using sliders to try and pick the right color and darkness for this layer
