Mother was pregnant him with an abusive first husband. She left him in a messy divorce and decided to live a new life in America before he was born. She had Lakynn, choosing his name randomly from a baby name book and giving him the middle name Sooyoung which is his Korean name.
His mom met Louis McCarthy when he was 2 and the two married when he was 3. As far as he is concerned, that is his father. Took the last name McCarthy to reflect it.
Started football when he was 6 since his step-father (mother’s then boyfriend) was a high school coach. He learned that some of the professional players learned ballet to help with their playing, so he decided to give it a try and he fell in love with it. So, his life was two worlds: his football games and his dance recitals.
His step-father has always been very supportive of him, even nearly getting into fist fights with other parents who dare say anything about his boy just because he loves ballet.
At age 12, he got accepted into a dance academy for kids and teens and has been at a semi-professional level since he was 13, starring in multiple Texas Ballet Theater productions from age 13 to when he was casted by Higher Records at age 18. He dropped football around then.
Even though he was a very busy kid between football and professional ballet, he was always out doing things he shouldn’t. Known as a heartbreaker in school, he would have two or three different girlfriends going on at the same time, partying later than he should as long as there was no rehearsal or practice the next day scheduled.
When visiting his grandparents when he was 18, he saw that Higher Records was hosting auditions for their trainees and figured he could give it a shot. He was handsome and fit and knew how to dance. He got accepted in and did fairly well in training. Being in show business already, he was used to being bombarded by the trainers and coaches, and the need to be physically fit was already a given as a professional ballerino.
He kept a lot of his old habits: multiple girlfriends, drinking underage, smoking weed (not too much because his lungs need to be good).
He’s very disappointed that he isn’t a main dancer, but he understands that he struggles sometimes with hip-hop and urban dance, being professionally trained in ballet.
There are a few rumors of him not being squeaky clean floating around and some of it might start to come to light, if he isn’t careful. He has already been pulled from Giddy Up promotions early due to undisclosed reasons, some saying it’s because he was caught dating.
