Sainte by Lambert & Fils — a Suspension Light in Dialogue with Gravity

Sainte is a collection about the forces that anchor us — a suspension light in dialogue with gravity. Streamlined yet impactful, it reimagines the archetypal rectangle in colourful glass — an elegant mass floating in space and supported by a robust nylon ribbon.

Presented for the first time in the Caffè Populaire, the award-nominated 2019 Fuorisalone pop up café proposed by Lambert & Fils and DWA Design Studio, Sainte now makes its official debut for the international market.

Sainte is a collaboration between Lambert & Fils and former lead designer Rachel Bussin. The design evolved from Lambert & Fils founder Samuel Lambert’s urge to work with glass in a new way, invoking industrial materials like nylon straps and glass tubes. Together, he and Bussin built around these components, finessing Sainte’s design for more than a year and eventually unveiling the collection’s Atelier version at Milan Fuorisalone. Following the exhibition, the collection’s Classic Series was developed, offering the same lighting designs carefully scaled for smaller spaces.

A dance of contrasting materials and equilibrium of opposing forces. Powered by a flat wire embedded within a nylon ribbon, Sainte anchors carry a casual, contemporary spirit: an everyday material flirting with its graceful, minimalist center. An aluminum box rests within the transparent glass — a visual intrigue with the capacity to cast light up or down depending on the desired mood. Nine models come together to create a scalable collection optimized for both residential interiors as well as loftier commercial spaces. The form can suspend from any angle and height, and in multiples, offering the excitement of infinite architectures and possibilities.

SAINTE ATELIER SERIES

Unveiled in Milan, Sainte’s Atelier Series is scaled for larger spaces and higher ceilings — composed of boldly hued laminated glass panels with pronounced presence and weight. The dynamic colour options for this series harken the majesty of Caffè Populaire : lighting that creates a spectacle, that becomes a monument.

Lighting Design Studio Lambert & Fils Launches the Mile Collection

Recently launched at Stockholm Design Week, Lambert & Fils presents The Mile Collection, designed in collaboration with Guillaume Sasseville, Creative Director of Montreal-based studio SSSVLL.

 For the Mile, the designers explored the iconic linear suspension light, typically found in offices, workshops and other unadorned, utilitarian spaces. They distilled the classic archetype to its core functionality and reimagined its design as a poetic, sculptural expression both in its form and in the way its light illuminates a space.

“Two extruded bodies connect in an asymmetrical balancing act giving them the illusion of weightlessness. The invisible counterbalances inside the frame create a tension and makes the fixture seem like it’s levitating” - Sasseville

The designers replaced the archetype’s classic use of suspension cables with nylon braided electric cords, intertwining form and function. Typically, linear suspension lights are functional apparatuses that supply precise levels of illumination in workplaces with up and down lighting. The Mile’s design preserves these features but brings them into the decorative realm.

  The Mile’s strong sculptural presence is suited for both commercial and residential spaces. It was conceived with the possibility of ongoing threading for a seamless and dramatic effect or to be hung as a stand-alone sculptural accent.
