When former It Looks Sad bassist Lamont Brown wants to make a crushing, four-track demo of reverb-coated guitar pop, he goes all in with his influences. He swipes the melody from Nirvana's "Swap Meet" for opener "Units" and builds a springy bass-driven rhythm to support it. The music sounds gentler but actually does more emotional damage. Brown recalls Bloc Party on the tunnelvision guitar and helicopter drumming of "Sports," further breaking your heart into a million pieces. This is bedroom indie pop of the finest kind, and Brown's clearly learned a few things from listening deeply to how the game is played. Wild Nothing and blurry dream pop also abound. Brown's chosen nom de plume, Aggrocragg, references a beloved childhood hallmark, but his music suggests grownup heartache. It's a beautiful thing.
