Story - summarized

Chi Xiaoyu is so caught up in her latest romance novel that she almost forgets about the exams. She shoves daydreams of love and cute boys, and tries to remember as much from her notes as she can.

She still worries about passing the test and drops her pen in the classroom. A cute boy hands it back to her. This first meet is just like in novels! Xiaoyu wonders if she'll see him later at the Lantern Festival. It would be so romantic to reenact the scene of the boy giving the heroine a lantern.

After pressing through the exam, Xiaoyu and her roommate, Bailu, head to the main event area. There! By the lantern stall! The cute boy from class. Xiaoyu works up the nerve to walk over, under the moonlight, just like in novels. She sees him buy a lantern.

She realizes the boy barely noticed her in class. Bailu tries comforting her, but Xiaoyu just wants to disappear.

Back at school, Xiaoyu's sour mood lingers... until she sees her grade from the test: her best score yet. And the boy she liked? He got one of the worst results. Guess he isn't novel hero material after all.

Xiaoyu receives a lantern from the teacher as a reward for her high score. She celebrates this moment, and she realizes that finding a boyfriend can wait.

-Chi Xiaoyu loves her novels. Whether she inserts herself into the adventures like in Virescent Mountain, or whether she's sharing recommendations with friends during the Autumn Moon hell event, she can't stay away from books and fantasies.

-She's not the only one who's experienced unrequited love. Ashley had a crush on Joseph, a young musician in Meteoric Feather, but once he saw her face he ditched her for Paisley.

-The Lantern Festival marks the end of Chinese New Year. While Chi Xiaoyu's story takes place during the ending festivities, Luming has a Reflection that takes place at the beginning of the New Year celebrations: Lanterns of Fish. He grants the wish of a little fish who wanted to reunite with its friend.

Fun Facts

-Epiphyllum is a flower known for its amazing, but short-lived, beauty. There's even an expression: "昙花一现", or "The epiphyllum blooms but once." It means to enjoy something while it lasts. You can learn more here.
