Chaox shows us around a popular lan cafe in Shanghai :D Looks freaking awesome. I wish lan cafe's were more popular like this all over the world so gamers can more easily unite~ I mean, look at all those people playing League..! Amazing.
I didn't want much. Just a chance to compete.
A year ago I discovered my local LAN Cafe. I was eagly excited to get back into the fighting game scene after leaving for a few years, but I quickly found out there was no local scene for fighting games. There was, however, a scene for League of Legends.
Competition is competition, I said. I'll learn the game, practice and read, and in a few months I'll be a capable but still learning player. That all went rather according to plan, except those primary competitors stopped coming. They felt there wasn't any one to play against there. Still others continued to learn League, and I kept learning, spending more and more of my time learning the game.
Now here I am, a year later, a competent player, and I can't get a serious game going at the LAN cafe for anything because the competitive spirit there has slowly fizzled out. A tournament is happening at LAN cafe in two weeks, and I can't get any sort of a team together because I don't go to the local university, and everyone paired up with their friends. All I can get is ARAMs and being forced to play positions and champions I don't.
Competition, is that really so much to ask for? I really don't care what the competition is, but its something I love and need in my life, and yet I can't find and maintain a relationship with any sort of competitive community for anything, and I always seem to mistake a casual scene for hardcore competitors.
I don't want to play ADC in LoL.
I don't want to be told not to play Land Destruction in MtG.
I don't want to be told not to do "cheap" things in board games.
I just want to compete.
