Fireweed: Pictures, Flowers, Leaves & Identification | Chamerion angustifolium (ediblewildfood.com)
The leaves are alternate, narrowly lanceolate and they measure up to 15cm in length. There is a white central vein on most leaves as well.
Lanceolate
adj. Shaped like the head of a lance; tapering from a rounded base toward the apex.
Shaped like a lance-head; in botany, several times longer than broad, and tapering from a rounded base toward the apex, or tapering in both directions: by some restricted to the latter case: said of leaves, scales, marks, etc.
adj. Rather narrow, tapering to a point at the apex, and sometimes at the base also.

Can anyone id this tree for me? It's growing in a fairly small, moderately dense mixed wood (mostly pitch pines, maples, and oaks, smattering of several other deciduous species), several hundred yards from a large pond. Trees were generally upright; trunks were slightly crooked but not generally forked. Skinny trees (maybe 8” diameter) were probably thirty or forty feet tall with most of the branches and foliage concentrated at the top (as generally expected in the woods). Simple, alternately attached, lanceolate leaves, dark green above, very pale whitish green below. Serrate margin, veins are maybe arcuate? Bark is gray and flakey. #unknowtree #treeid #alternateattachment #simpleleaves #lanceolate #serrate #flakeybark #graybark #tree #leaf #leaves #albanypinebush @apbpc (at Six Mile Waterworks)
Can anyone help me identify this plant growing in my window box? All I can ascertain is that the leaves are #lanceolate #serrated and #crossventilated . They are sort of olive green or, have a slight fuzz on them, and are lighter underneath. I don't want to pull it out in case it's a wild flower, or even just a pretty foliage plant. Any ideas? #identifymyplant #whatplantisthis #windowbox #windowboxgarden #wildplants #wildflowers @payjackchrystine ? @theoriginaldibble (at Kentish Town)
