I’ve been looking at tree ID resources for my scout troop and cannot find any that include the mighty London Plane! I know these are hybrid, introduced trees and are mainly found in city parks and alongside roads - not ancient forests - but these are common trees for us urban folk. Why no ID flashcards? ⠀ ⠀ They’re tough, can cope with poor soil, tend not to drop branches and are fab at carbon sequestration not to mention provide shade - they literally deserve recognition! We can’t all be English Oaks y’know :) Is urban tree snobbery a thing? ⠀ ⠀ Anyway I’ve made my own Beaver Scout urban tree ID resource now as these trees deserve some love, especially this monster in Clissold Park, near the playground. Watch out for Beaver scouts peering at trees in a park near you! ⠀ ⠀ #treeID #treeidentification #trees #londonplanesneedlovetoo #lovelondonplanes #londonplane #parklife #urbantrees #nature #science #wellness #urbanforestschool #forestschool #outdooreducation #natureconnection #getoutdoors #scouting #clissoldpark #hackneyoutdoors #walking #hugatree (at Clissold Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/COPp-IynpWo/?igshid=z45plnhm60ox
Massive amounts of what I 🤔 think are ash keys hanging from the ash trees! 🌳 #winter #wintertrees #treesinwinter #ashtree #treeid #treeidentification https://www.instagram.com/p/CItB2JpBg5Q/?igshid=1obiydvrlpso9

Found this little cutie at work this week. I noticed that the needles came in clusters of threes, and was so mesmerized by the needles coming out of the trunk that I didn’t bother taking a picture of the canopy. The bark came in long plates.
According to my Sibley pine, needles of three and broad orange plates of bark likely place this pine in the yellow pine group. If I were to pick a species, I would have to call this a pitch pine (Pinus rigida), because it and pond pine are the only pines that have tufts of needles coming out of their trunks.
Let me know if you have other thoughts!
Who can tell me what this is? My wild guess is Magnolia, but I've never ID'd one before, so I don't really know what to look for. #treeid #mysterytree #angiosperm #treeflower (at Guilderland, New York)
I think I found a black maple at the #mulhollandwildflowerpreserve... #blackmaple #fallishere #september #septemberhike #ithaca #acer #treeid (at Mulholland Wildflower Preserve)
Who can ID this tree for me? Thorns are 1 to 2 inches long, I thought maybe a hawthorn or plum, but the buds don't seem to match up with either. #unknowntree #treeid #thorntree (at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center)
