Bit of world for Imago Hominis.
Mars is undergoing terraforming, but it’s a slow process. At the moment, it is safe-ish to go outside, so long as you wear a warmsuit and oxygen mask. Air’s a bit thin, so it feels like topping Everest in the plains, and don’t even think about going to Olympus.
Colonies are big domed-over societies with better climate built in to natural depressions.
Shuttling between them are immense land trains, ideal for long-distance hauls over barren terrain. (Not much water out there as of yet, so shipping’s out, and thin air means poor lift for aircraft.) Fast shipping can be piggybacked onto orbital shots for a ballistic route, but overland’s fine for the non-perishables.
Bit of what I developed back in school, bit of inspiration from Isaac Arthur’s superb videos on YouTube - go look them up if you like thinking big about space and the future.
