The Real Mittens - in Monument Valley
The West and East Mitten Buttes (also known as the Mittens) are two buttes in the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in northeast Navajo County, Arizona. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two giant mittens with their thumbs facing inwards.

Not really. He's the old man who yells at kids to get off his lawn, but never gets off the porch to do anything about it. He turned his convictions into talking points a long time ago.
I think that’s a fair assessment. I would agree with it like 90-99% of the time, if I’m being honest.
For me it goes back to an old Daily Show interview. I didn’t really know who John McCain even was. He hadn’t run for president yet. And though I disagreed with much of what he said, he seemed like a genuine person and said a few respectable things. I was impressed with him... for a republican in congress. I think even Jon Stewart felt that way. But eventually he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate and he stopped being genuine and respectable. As I watched the coverage unfold on the Daily Show I could see Jon Stewart’s confusion as he had to basically tear apart all of the nonsense. He was like, “Who is this guy?”
It’s just that every once in a while I get a short glimpse of that person who was on the Daily Show all those years ago. He’s spoken out against using torture, for instance. And recently he did more than yell at the kids on his lawn. He actually voted against that horrendous health care bill. Then he said the tax reform bill was shit and I thought maybe he was done being a horrible GOP puppet. But they worked their voodoo and the bastard signed it.
Maybe I’m having a Luke Skywalker moment. When McCain calls out Trump for his nonsense I feel like I can sense a tiny nugget of good within him. Maybe nugget is too generous. A tiny shriveled raisin of good within him. Probably hiding in a testicle or something. A tiny moral testicle raisin takes the reigns for brief moments and I get flashes of that Daily Show interview.
In the end, I think he is too scared to lose any of his power and standing to take action. And he’s mostly a lost cause that will not be very helpful. Which is too bad. But part of me hopes that raisin does something more.
