Here's a classic old west historical picture of the Famous Judge Roy Bean. Seen here in the middle is, Judge Bean with the white hat and open book. He is trying the man with his hands behind his back under the ice/beer sign. This picture was taken in Langtry, Texas in 1900. Judge Bean died three years later in 1903. Even then, ice was used as the basics of keeping beer cold and the earliest form of refrigeration.
