In like third grade English my teacher told us that names were never to be translated.
And I believed that to be the rule because it seemed polite to use the name given/chosen from the language the person is from, that made sense to me.
But apparently they lied??! Because everyone and their grandparents keep's translating everything's/everyone's names like there is no tomorrow.
My name's originally greek, given to me by my two German parents and obviously they and everyone in Germany says it how you would pronounce it in German, but I was in New Zealand recently and now I have a bunch of friends which I speak English with and they call me by the English pronunciation.
