languagevillage replied to your post:Do you make ASMR videos on YouTube?
Please explain ASMR videos? I did the necessary googling, but not understanding if this is a meme or a therapy tool or a fandom…
sure! it's definitely not a joke or a fandom or anything like that
asmr is a sensation. if you've experienced it, it's kind of a tingly feeling maybe down your back or on your nose or around your scalp. and different people have different triggers for feeling it. some common ones include whispered or soft-spoken speech, very careful or deliberate movements, slow and methodical actions, calm teaching, tapping, scratching lightly, clinking, and so on. it's very audio-visual. some other common ones that aren't easy to do in video include when someone uses something of yours, like i felt it in school when people would borrow a pencil or something like that.
it's not at all sexual or funny really. just a pleasant sensation that people try to replicate through these videos and other media. most people find it relaxing or calming (i use asmr videos to bring me down from anxiety attacks), and usually a good sleep aid (i listen to asmr videos almost every night at least some).
it's just that since most people experience asmr differently in some way, the videos all vary wildly. some people love role play videos, some people hate them. some people only like unintentional asmr videos (i.e. that wasnt the intention of the creator), while others only like intentional videos. there's a lot of variety out there.
I read this paragraph:
”Caller, go ahead,” Don said into the mic. He fiddled with his collar and looked out the window. It was almost dawn. He could see the frogs hopping from the parking lot to the lawn. Remembering SeanJohn and Deshawn, he balled his hands into fists and began to bawl. It was hot dog season again.

(I can't tell if I have the merger or not. And I'm really bad with IPA, so if someone wants to help me with transcribing what vowels I actually use, I would love you forever.)
languagevillage replied to your post “statements of purpose for grad school are the current bane of my...”
It doesn't get better! On the academia career path, you'll be writing "statements of purpose" forever! They're awful!
I'm just really loathe writing about myself. I hated every second of this stuff when applying to unergrad stuff too.
