♚ ── It had been a good day.  Miles had finished up early, thanks to a fairly straightforward trial.  Even Gumshoe hadn't made a fool of himself on the stand.  There had not been enough time to warrant a trip back to the office at this point, so he had packed up his briefcase and made a few phone calls before just heading home.  Pess and Max would be glad for the company, even if Shi-Long might not be home yet.

When Miles pulled into the driveway, though, Shi-Long's van was already in the garage.  His schedule was somewhat unpredictable, so this wasn't terribly surprising.  The dogs greeted him at the door, and he spent a few minutes returning the favor.

It was only then that he turned his attention to the other resident of the house.

“Shi-Long? I'm home.”

♚ ── It had only been a few weeks since Shi-Long had moved into Miles' apartment, but it felt like years sometimes.

Miles had been reluctant to move his boyfriend in.  He enjoyed his privacy and the quiet of his home, and even though he enjoyed spending time with Shi-Long, he also liked spending time alone, in a controlled place, without the interference of other people.

It just made sense for Shi-Long to move in.  He needed a place in the area, and it didn't make sense for him to stay somewhere else when Miles had an apartment plenty big enough for two.  Besides, they were getting fairly serious.  This was the logical progression of their relationship.

But that didn't mean that cohabitation was easy.

“You left the sink dirty after shaving.  Again,” Miles remarked as he sipped his morning tea.  He tried very hard not to be petty, but there were certain things he simply could not tolerate.

♚ ── Miles Edgeworth had no real interest in carnivals or county fairs, but Kay had found out that Shi-Long had never been to an American carnival, and...well, now, here they were. It was very difficult to tell that girl no when she was set on something.  And Miles supposed that Shi-Long might enjoy one anyway, even if it wasn't really his thing.

He had dressed down for the event, in faded blue jeans, a black t-shirt, and a burgundy scarf, but he still felt rather overdressed.  Pess had also forgone her best collars for the event, since Miles didn't want her miniature cravat to get dirty.

“I'm not fond of the rides that spin,” Miles commented, “and the games are usually rigged in places like these.  But I suppose the food is good.”  Not his standard fare, of course, but...good, nonetheless.

♚ ── It had been a very long week, and Miles was glad that the more hectic parts of it were over.  There was, of course, paperwork that needed finishing, but he was willing to put that off and worry about it after the weekend was done with.  Even though he had just returned to work after a month abroad, he felt as though he needed another vacation.

But the former Ambassador Alba had been convicted and was awaiting sentencing, Cohdopia was reunited into one country, the smuggling ring was in shambles, and an old enemy had finally been put away.  He had managed to escape the celebration Gumshoe and Kay were putting on, and he was quite ready for some peace and quiet with a book, a glass of wine, and an affectionate Pess.

It was not to be, however.  No sooner had he hung up his suit jacket and removed his cravat, when the intercom near the door buzzed to life. The doorman informed him that a certain Agent Lang had arrived to visit.  Rather mystified, Miles told him to allow Lang within.

What was Lang doing here?  He had come to Alba's trial to watch, which seemed odd for a man who hated prosecutors so much, and now he was coming to visit?  Miles supposed they had built something of a rapport during that case, and it was only through Lang's cooperation that they were able to take Alba down at all.  But visiting his apartment seemed a little...odd.

Well, he would find out soon enough, since Lang was on his way up.
