"I did have the blessing of several teachers who assured me that my book was “done” and that I should begin to submit the manuscript, but in hindsight, I’m grateful it took another few years (and several new poems) before Four Way Books accepted it for publication. The one positive thing about sending out an almost-but-not-yet-finished manuscript into the real world is that it instilled a severe urgency in me.
