the abels are a large family. distant cousins and aunts and uncles who might not even be related to them are common, as are those slightly awkward family reunion moments where you have to ask where exactly you last saw a certain person. most of the extended abels, however, reside in the countryside of the candle kingdom, primarily as farmers. pax's father is a rarity— he moved to the more populated center of the lantern village, met his wife there, settled down and rarely goes back. still, the family will pack up and go out to see the relatives occasionally— if only as family tradition and a slight change of scenery.

pax himself is the oldest, and only boy, of the group. his four sisters— dahlia, daphne, delilah, and daisy— are the driving force of the house, and provide his family with more than a handful. still, pax isn't accustomed to the shunned feeling he might have developed as the only brother; in fact, he's very close to all his sisters, and takes to being the protective figure pretty well. (sure, he may poke fun at dahlia or the twins from time to time, but he is the only one who is allowed to.)
