The view was magnificent. Nunnally had always liked it, and now that she was soon to lose it all, its beauty was even more striking. She took a sip of her tea, then stood up, leaving the unfinished drink on the small table. The door was opened for her, and the princess left the room, her light steps carrying her to the drawing room, where her guest had already been waiting. Too long, perhaps.
The door opened, and indeed, she saw Scien inside.
“I hope I have not kept you waiting too long…?” – Nunnally asked, giving him a small curtsy – “I…” – she had wanted to offer a polite lie, but instead she settled for the truth – “I wasn’t ready to come. I am afraid… of what is to follow…” – the princess smiled at him, then seated herself near the window – “Will it truly be me…”
“…when the process is over?” – she hesitated, falling silent for a few long moments – “I had always thought it would feel different… That I would be weak… sick… not just anxious.”
