With 130 million babies being born each year, it turns necessary to have their growth be monitored efficiently and seamlessly. Mother's undergo immense pain in the entire process starting from pre labour to post delivery. Traditionally, to monitor the child's heartbeat an ultrasound Doppler transducer is used and for detection of uterine contractions a tocodynamometer is used. The two units are then connected via cables, one end being at patient and other to a centralized unit consisting of a speaker and a printer. The fetal heartbeat can then be traced and monitored in the Fetal Monitor.
Seeing the pace at which the world is changing, researchers are adopting new methodologies to beat the traditional ways. To provide ease with which women can give birth is the introduction of wireless system to monitor the growth of foetus. The new system of Fetal Monitor is found to overcome various limitations set by the traditional methods.
Prototype of the wireless Monitor :-
Wireless Fetal Monitor consists of a non invasive cardiotocograph which utilizes technologies based on Doppler method and sensors attached to measure the heartbeat, maternal heartbeat along with uterine contractions. The components are designed such a way that they pair up using Bluetooth to a gateway used for data transmission and further seen to visualize the fetal initial cardiotocograph. After monitoring, the data collected is then sent via the gateway to cloud based server for storage. This can be further analysed on a web portal requiring secured access from any smartphone having operating system 4.2.1 or greater. The only requirement a gateways needs to possess is the OS and compatibility with the software developed at the West Health Institute.
Freedom to move for moms: The new monitoring system is free from all cables and does not require and wired connection between the in patient and the device. This enables moms to move freely without being bedridden for hours. It serves best for labor mom's as mom's can feel comfortable in absence of all those messy wires and also offers flexible option for seamless delivery.
Multifunctional: The system no only tracks the heartbeat of the fetal but also monitor the maternal heartbeat along with sensing the presence of twin or triplets. The device can effectively sense the difference between the heartbeat of foetus along with the concerned mother.
Wireless OB department: The transduce used can efficiently transmit signals concerned with the maternal and fetal health to a base station connected to the fetal monitor which further transmits the data received to the IntelliSpace Perinatal information management system.
Triple transducer: The device has three transducers that ensure maximum safety. The fetal heartbeat and movement is traced by an ultrasound transducer. To measure the uterine contractions along with maternal pulse, and either of maternal ECG , ECG or IUP of fetal, a Toco+MP transducer is used. Finally the ECG/IUP transducer helps in noting the maternal ECG or fetal ECG.
With so much to offer and ensuring greater obstetrical care, the Wireless Fetal Monitor are best for the high risk labor patients.
