i don’t have a neat answer; i’m more fond of it than in awe of it, but it’s an interesting experiment and good entertainment, with some really solid acting. 

 i guess my biggest (no, my only) problem with dvd is that it wants to be bold (poc! extra european settings! strong female characters! cannons! wars!) but then it actually manages to be so conservative as to straightwash leonardo in times were having a gay main character (who was also most probably gay or possibly asexual irl) could have been extremely relevant for tv. it’s like some aspects of this show got old before it even aired.

but essentially you must ask yourself if you’re interested in seeing a young leonardo that talks and acts like the lovechild of tony stark and bbc’s sherlock getting involved in a supernatural-ish adventure. i personally like the first season better because it has more vatican and court drama (AND giuliano), but i know a lot of fans prefer S2. 

again it’s an interesting experiment in re-reading history and you can see there’s a lot of work behind it (the soundtrack is brilliant, the costuming great especially by S2), its characters are oddly easy to relate to and the cast has amazing chemistry. the plot, though, it’s really up to one’s taste.
