Hard mode character development for Detox: 5, 11, 24, 31 and 38!
Oh my god thank you I never get to talk about Detox!
5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
Detox will always have on him his Better Living Industries identification badge, a half-empty prescription bottle of city-mandated Pills (not that he takes them but it keeps suspicion down) his keys, a few credits. He also keeps a ray gun tucked into his waistband under his labcoat, and he’s never had to use it yet.
11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?
One day Crows came into the lab where he works saying they were investigating strange behavior that had been exhibited by a BLI employee there and spent the day watching everyone in the lab. He was relieved when they ended up arresting one of his coworkers for tampering with the Pills, and he still feels guilty about that but tells himself that what he’s doing is important and that the people he helps in the Zones cannot afford for anything to happen to him. After that incident he started working on a “Get Out” plan from the lab. Just in case.
24. How quick is your character to trust someone else?
Detox is the most paranoid fucker in Battery City, probably. He trusts very few people, mostly the runners he works with but not enough to ever let them see his face. He very rarely meets with new runners or dealers because of this, usually working with the few trusted gangs he knows, and if he considers adding a new one then they’re heavily vetted.
31. Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.
When he’s meeting runners and dealers in the Lobby or Underground, when he’s got his mask on and is passing on the clean medication and medical supplies to them to get out to the Zones. Sure its incredibly dangerous but at least in those moments he knows where he stands, and he’s got a clean (or as clean as it gets) get-away with whatever runners he’s meeting with. He’s also incredibly comfortable when he meets kids in the Lobby who need help getting off the mandated pills and either trains them to pass in the city or helps them get a ride out.
38. Is your character more likely to remove a problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat?
Detox is more likely to remove himself from any problem or threatening situation, especially if it involves crows. Any confrontation or resistance to members of SCARECROW is a punishable offense, after all.
