much like the roses, the lapises arguably reflect aspects of "our" lapis?

there’s “nice lapis”, who is fun, dorky, relatively nice. her snark is just a product of her environment, and her viciousness comes mainly from being pressured by others. deep down, she’s a friend! genuinely curious about both the concept of friendship and of learning about earth, art, and living outside your job. she might be a little embarrassed at her own dorkiness, but she just wants to be happy.

and there’s “mean lapis”, who is haughty, entitled. selfish. her feelings is what matters, not how she impacts others! her worst instincts are followed because it’s what feels natural to her. she’s more than happy to ruin someone’s day to make her own better (in this case, terraforming because she likes doing it. it comes natural & helps her avoid coping with change), but unwilling to reflect or accept criticism. she abuses her considerable power, feels like she’s allowed to do so. makes excuses for herself when called out. happy to use that power, freely and unrestrained.

i’m not... entirely sure whether they’re meant to be aspects rather than just “her past”, since they’re more similar to each other than the roses were. but we DO know that the parallel to “our” lapis is intentional. mirrors, indeed.

so the lesson to take away from “Why So Blue” is:

Lapis has finally become enough of a stable, in-control person to start attracting bottoms.
