Microsoft Likely To Expand Surface Pro Line With Larger Display Tablet
The market is booming with rumors that Microsoft is likely to expand its Surface Pro Line by introducing a new edition of the flagship device very soon. It is expected that the technology giant will unveil the third generation of its Surface device at an even on Tuesday – May 21, 2014. The speculations are on rife after the Microsoft CEO has hinted on the probable release of a larger Surface tablet.
The device segment has been a challenge to the strategy makers at Microsoft. The Surface tablet that was launched in October 2012 has about 2% of the market share and has not been able to make any significant footprint against rivals including Apple's iPad. Same goes for the Microsoft's 3% global share in the Smartphone segment. But with the launch of the larger Surface tablet, Microsoft is looking forward to an opportunity to improve its market share in the device segment.
According to Rhoda Alexander, who directs IHS Technology's monitor and tablet research, said, "There are strong indications that there is a 12-inch product coming down the pipeline." He was referring to Microsoft Surface product line. The current Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 have 10.6-inch displays.
According to market analysts, launch of a larger Surface means that Microsoft could be betting on capture the productivity market. It could attract customers because business consumers usually prefer device with bigger displays, especially when using a mouse or keyboard. All the Surface tablets are offered with an option for a snap-on keyboard with an integrated touchpad.
