Adventures in Crate Digging: Earth Wind And Fire and an extended interlude.
Everyone knows Earth Wind & Fire’s 1981 album “Raise!” for the 1st track and huge hit, “Let’s Groove”. But for me, it’s the first track on side B that changed everything. I think I play this track more than “In The Stone” from “I Am” in 1979.
Larry Dunn, EWF’s keyboardist at this time, had a huge custom keyboard rig that I actually laid eyes on when I was a kid and saw the band on tour. This is just him jamming, but it’s such a grand fusion of their Afro-funk thing and a mix that was ahead of its time.
Maurice White is credited with writing this, but nobody can really take credit for this. It grooves and takes on a life of its own.
