Nice thing about those keyboard is the mechanism is standard like the latter VIC-20 and C64. I used one back in the day bu using a c64 keyboard PCB and popping off the non C16 caps and put in the C64 caps (plus a few extra so it didn't look all hit and miss for a two tone C64 keyboard.
I’ve seen a handful of multi-color keyboards, usually harvesting parts from VIC-20, C64, and C64C keyboards to achieve fun patterns.
