4. kiss to the side of the head

Larry is used to feeling exhaustion so powerful that he can picture it coursing through his veins; he's used to feeling tiredness in every cell of his body, like it's trying to tear him apart from the inside until he can't hold himself up anymore.

What he's not used to, though, is having someone to catch him—especially not in his room, not in this place that was never meant for anyone but him to step inside of, especially not when his bandages are off, a sight that no one but him was ever meant to see.

And yet, when his legs fail him, as if their last dozen missions and almost-apocalypses just caught up on him, strong arms momentarily made of lead easily hold him up.

"Thanks," Larry mumbles, the embarrassment audible in his voice. "Uh, sorry."

Rama smiles and shakes his head, though Larry can't see him, his eyes fixed forward like he's afraid of being seen by Rama in such a vulnerable state.

"You're alright," he whispers. He presses a kiss to the side of Larry's head like it's nothing, like he doesn't even need to think about it, like it's completely normal for his lips to touch burnt skin and offer the sort of comfort that Larry has never dreamed he might get.

"I got you," he adds, and Larry can't help but believe him.
