Lepidoptera study pt 1 - 26/12/20 - Bombyx mori, “Domestic Silkworm” Superfamily Bombycoidea; Family Bombycidae
The almighty king of caterpillars, the silkworm! You can thank this little grub for creating all your silk products ♥ They work very hard.
In appearance, the caterpillars are not always white with black stripes, sometimes they are just plain white or cream.
The caterpillars feed on the leaves of plants from the Moraceare, “Mulbery family”. Including:
Morus alba “White Mulberry”
Morus nigra “Black Mulberry”
Morus rubra “Red Mulberry”
Cudrania tricuspidata “Che”
Reportedly accept Lettuce, but decline spinach.
Though commercially, the silkworms usually feed on “Silkworm Chow”, Which is the leaves, grounded into flour, and petrified.
