First morning in Tenerife (August 2017).
On that morning, my Dad and I decided to do an early morning walk around the local area and discover what was around.
Over the last few years, I have really fallen in love with Succulents, so I was over the moon to see succulents/cacti everywhere, and I just had to get a snap with them, haha!
This was an odd trip, probably one of my least favorite, but not because of the place, but because for the entire 2 weeks, I was full of a chest infection and had a temperature in the already hot climate. , it was horrible.
Soon enough, I will be able to give this little island another chance as my family are investing in a holiday home there and I cannot wait to really get exploring!
I must say though, the marina in Las Galletas is beautiful and if you ever get the chance you must, must, MUST take the catamaran boat whale watching tour. It was the first time I had ever seen Pilot whales and Bottle-Nose dolphins. The catamaran took us all along the shoreline, out to sea, to coves for snorkelling etc. It truly was a lovely day.
There was a wonderful festival on in the town on one of our last days there and although it was loud, it was captivating.
I highly recommend a local steak house called Guachinche El Cordero! The steaks are bigger than your head and the tastiest thing I have ever had. Shared between a few people and a plate of Canarian potatoes, it is the most wonderful dinner ever, and not to bad on the wallet either.
If you ever get the chance, and you like bustling little towns full of culture, pop over to El Medano. It was a beautiful little place, and there is a tiny little café right on the sea wall which does amazing boozey cocktails and giant plates of sprats and whitebait for those fish lovers out there. There was cute little shops, bakeries, pubs, posh bistros, and its only little beach in the centre of town which although is busy with locals, was still a very enjoyable afternoon for myself and my family.
If you go to Tenerife and decide to go to the top of the volcano Mount Teide, go the long way! Get a decent 4 wheel drive car, don’t forget your balls of steel and drive up, with a detour to Masca, you will not regret it!
So I said it was one of my least favorite trips, but looking back, though I was ill, I think I am wrong. It was a great trip!
