Homemade Laser Maze

Here we will make a homemade laser maze.  The old laser maze use several laser beam producers, and they also need a special room for lasers, like the following laser maze.

We need a laser module + several mirrors + a light sensor to make a laser maze.

The laser module is Square shape long working 5V DC powered green laser, that means it can be working for several hours. We recommend low power laser for beginners , such as 100mW.

You need a green safety goggles while working on this project.

1) Think about the beam network, that how you want the laser beam goes through the room.

2) Fix the laser module, you need to fix it tightly, as if the laser moves, the laser beam will move.

3) Fix the mirrors through the laser beams step by step.

4) Fix the light sensor at the end of the laser beam

Laser Tag and Lazer Maze at Lazer Xtreme

Whenever I saw something from the television about laser tag, my mind always tells me to try it. But unfortunately, I haven't seen any arena near our place. Thanks to Blogapalooza for introducing LazerXtreme to me, and this time, I have no excuses not to try it!

LazerXtreme's state-of-the-art laser tag system has several game formats specifically designed to provide a variety of spectacular challenges for its different groups of players. LAZER MAZE (only available at ATC)

Players enter a dark room with criss-crossing laser beams. The goal is to activate the button on the other end of the room, return to base without touching any of the beams. Touching a beam means added time to the player’s score. The winner is the player that makes it in the least possible time. 

Four levels of difficulty are available to avid players of Laser Maze: easy, medium, hard, expert.

Halloween: Day 19. Haunted Laser Tag at The Petrified Forest

Three days behind. Yikes! I hate slacking, but I haven't found the time to write and the time to spend with my Florida friends and family. 

Thankfully, I have found the time for Halloween!

On Saturday night, Tom and I picked up my friends Kim and Aaron from Kim's place downtown. I've known Aaron (AJ) since fourth grade, when I was the new kid in town and he had an eye tooth (that's when I learned about eye teeth). 

Kim and I became friends in high school, when the three of us competed in acting competitions as Thespian Troupe 4564.

Yea, we were cool. And we still are.

After college, Kim roomed with me in Los Angeles for about a year, before returning to Orlando. She and Aaron had never met Tom. What's a better way to make friends than a laser maze?

Altamonte hosts a Petrified Forest  with laser tag, laser maze, and scare trail. The laser tag and laser maze were the cheapest at $7. The description of the laser maze was such:

"All NEW this year! Attempt to retrieve stolen artifacts for the Museum of Mayhem. As you enter into a secret vault, laser beams are waiting you to trip up and set off the alarms. Gather all the items on your list without breaking one of the beams, bring them out safely, and you win!"

Weary of typical haunted mazes, Tom and I imagined an Indiana Jones-esque maze, with booby traps and a haunted relic to retrieve. But, instead of something like this:

I couldn't pick up the lasers on my camera, but they're there. Basically, we were brought back into a small room with lasers criss-crossing it. The Petrified Forest worker read three items off a list that, one at a time, we find to find in three minutes without touching the lasers. If we crossed the beam, the worker buzzed a doorbell and we had to start from the beginning. Each person had to find three different items. Kim made a record by finding her three items in 30 seconds (she'd make an excellent cat burglar). 

Despite reality not meeting our expectations, we had fun. I think that has more to do with the company than the event, though.

After, the three of us grabbed a drink at Redlight Redlight. Tom ordered a Pizza Beer, which tasted like pizza flavored Goldfish (read = disgusting). Then Tom and I went to Eden Bar. 

Now, I must go help my Nana and mother with a few things. Hopefully, I can update Day 20 later today.

We spent the majority of yesterday with my family at The Alley, an entertainment complex with bowling, go-karts, an arcade and a LASER MAZE. I've included the video of Catherine Zeta Jones demonstrating how one navigates a laser maze to help you get the picture. :)

At first we thought it was just for kids, but then Jeremy and I decided to give it a try. We went together the first time on the "Hard" level and even though I felt like we were flubbing up completely, ended up with a top 10 score. (The game keeps track of how many lasers you "break." The fewer you hit, the higher your score.) Well that lit a competitive fire under us and we decided to try it again separately to see who could do better.

It was so fun! The laser lines were amazingly clear and bright. You could definitely tell when you were stepping over or sliding under one. I really took it seriously on my solo turn...even took off my flip-flops and got down on the (probably filthy) floor a few times. What's funny is that there's a video camera showing everyone outside the maze how you're doing...so there I was, crawling all over the floor and bending over in front of all my family. ;oP 

I did pretty well until right at the end. There were some areas I just COULD NOT fit through. :( I stood still for what felt like eternity trying to figure out how to squeeze through, but finally had to break like 3 lines just to get out of the thing. I even attempted a few Catherine Zeta Jones-esque moves...bending low and trying to slide my leg through. Didn't work. LOL

When it came down to it, I beat Jeremy! He came in 10th but then I went and got 7th place, bumping him out of the top 10 completely. In yo' face, husband!! *hehe*

I want to do it again. :)

(We also rode the go-karts. Love being a big, playful kid with my hubby.)

(And I may have started smack-talking a mouthy middle-schooler in the go-kart line. "Are you messing with my man right now? Don't start with me, son.")
