Those Days Are Gone And My Heart Is Breaking
EGX17~ Ava Airborne ~ Laser Dog
Ava Airborne - The endless flyer that I’ve fallen in love with <3
EGX17 Day 1 - I wandered around the indie games and 2 big shiny TV's caught my attention. On said TV’s, I saw lasers and balloons and a small beautifully designed girl gliding through an obstacle course. Next thing I know, I'm being handed a smart TV remote and asked if I want a go .... heck why not? First go ... less than 100m ... why oh why was I not surprised, after all - endless runners were never really my thing. Despite this, seeing my name so low on the leader board made me want to have another go. Second attempt was better, but still by no means particularly good. I came back a couple more times during the day, there was something that I couldn’t quite pinpoint drawing me back anytime I walked past.
Day 2 - Again as I walked past those 2 big TV’s, there was something drawing me in. Whether it be the uniquely charming artwork or the chilled and laid back music or that oh so tempting yet slightly mocking leader board that was laughing and taunting the gamer inside of me. Either way, by the end of day 2 I had hit second place.
Day 3 - By now I was hooked and spent a fair amount of the day spamming the board with ‘kikaiki’, finally managing to hit that top spot. By the evening, I had had my fill of queueing and waiting for games and decided to chill quite happily with the Laser Dog guys, listening to the games music and at points showing other people how to play - including an adorable young girl who’s three attempts were better than my first 20.
Day 4 - After finishing with my last AAA game of the weekend, I swiftly made my way back to Ava. I'm sure the Laser Dog guys could see the determination in my face and also the slight look of despair as I saw a new high top score had already been reached. After about 3 hours of agony, I finally managed to beat that 11,000 score. The sense of relief and accomplishment was unreal. I took this moment to go and explore the rest of the indie games I had not since been able to play and came back just in time to see 3 young boys absolutely wreck the score I had worked so hard for ...
Imagine you had just won a competition that gave you the best gaming equipment you could ever want for the rest of your life and then a couple hours later watch that same prize be taken back and given to someone else whilst being told they made a mistake ..... it felt something like I imagine that would.
Anyway, with all my other games played I had about 3 hours to try and redeem myself before EGX ended for another year ... no pressure then. I wasn’t having much luck so gladly swapped with others when new people appeared and wanted to play, however when everyone disappeared I was back on it and searching desperately for my light at the end of the tunnel. This light did in fact come - when I was purely dossing about and not really aiming for ... well ... anything. So there I am, happily gliding along, chilling out and suddenly I hear one of the guys behind me suddenly gain interest. I take a second to glance at my current score and realise I just hit 13,000 ... to then ‘just hit’ a great big black balloon of death. This collision then caused a great big destructive spiral of hopelessness and plummeted me down to the 13,434m mark.
Mission complete!
Ava is still in production and I'm sure I dug out more bugs than the guys at Laser Dog actually wanted but I can’t wait for it’s expected November release. I am well and truly in love with this game and Laser Dog - if your reading this .... thank you for putting up with me for 4 days straight XD
Boston's such a good protector. We've got to keep #laserdog inside during fireworks, hell run full stupid into then to save us.
