do I really “have to” wear makeup?
By: Claudia Manganiello
One beautiful outcome of all this time at home is getting used to my face without makeup. This is big for me considering I always did, even just to do laundry, I “needed” something on my face. So I’ve been working on becoming comfortable with my face as is both physically and mentally.
Perhaps it’s my genes or my addiction to all things chocolate but I’ve had acne for years so there’s always a pimple, redness or acne scars I’d like to cover up. My eyebrows and lashes are also naturally sparse so I always felt the “need” to fill them in.
So my game plan was to first try to eat better and actually exercise, second try to find a way to ACTUALLY better my complexion and acne, and third grow my eyelash/brow hair.
1. Try to eat better + Exercise
-limiting added sugar and replacing or adding fresh fruit to my snacks.
-adding more fruits and veggies than carbs to my plate.
-drinking lemon/lime water whenever I can
-walking, jogging, swimming, stretching whatever every day for atleast 20 minutes.
**It finally stuck with me that nothing will change outside if I don’t start inside.
2. Natural skin care
-every morning I rinse with only water (with clean hands always)
-every night I rinse and then apply a quarter size amount of raw honey and try to leave it on as long as I can
-use aloe vera to moisturize afterwards
-use crushed strawberry and turmeric mask to exfoliate, brighten and help with my acne scars once a week or so.
**While I still get a pimple once in a while I do feel like they go down pretty quickly this way and overall my face seems smoother and most noticably actually glows! My only big problem now is awaiting my acne scars to fade more with time.
My face now (after washing, applying aloe and castor oil for the night)
3. Grow my lashes and brows
-applying castor oil nightly
**It truly is kind of incredible how much my hair has grown. My aim is for the hair to be thick enough so I don’t feel as inclined to “have to” fill them in and soon enough I think they will.
Eyebrows then and now (both filled in, but still she’s growing)
When I eventually go back to work I’m getting used to the idea of wearing light makeup (tinted moisturizer, mascara, eyebrow pencil) to NONE and saving my heavier makeup for going out and doing it for fun, because I want to. But my goal is to not feel like I “have to” wear makeup at work either and I think I will get there.
A last thought is that while it only used to take me 20 minutes to do my everyday makeup, honestly most days especially recently I just never felt like doing it, it became a chore. Especially when you get ready with a guy and see you can use the time to do other things like SLEEP, eat, anything!!!! So I’m proud of this little change to spend my time more wisely and more and more proud of my face in and out after a long time hidden under products.
Best Lash growth serum EVER!
Do any of you have any recommendations on something to help eyelashes grow?
I've recently noticed that one of the things I do when I'm overly stressed or anxious is pull on my eyelashes.
(Not hard, but I get this weird thing where I feel like the lash is in my eye, so I rub it and end up pulling it out, accidentally.)
I used to bite my nails, and broke the habit, so I've been working on breaking this habit, as well...
Well, now my eyelashes are thinning out, and I need something to stimulate growth.
I've started taking biotin, again, to help hair growth, but have any of you used serums or anything that works??
(Preferably inexpensive, but open to options.)
Please let me know!
Thanks!
