Living Nightmare; The end.
The wind howled between the trees, swirling them and wiping through her long brown hair violently. Her bottom lip quivered but not because it was cold. In fact she could see her breath in front of her as warm air met the cold atmosphere. She was shaking with fear; petrified of what was going to happen to her. What might happen to the others, and she was scared of being a failure. Her eyes looked across the opening in the forest towards the other girl. Elena Gilbert. She was just an innocent girl caught up in a whirlwind of mess, terror and destruction, which Carmen was supposed to protect her from. She could hear the girls heart racing from meters away proving she was more scared than Carmen, but something about her expression made Carmen suspect that she knew this inevitable fate was coming.
Carmen swallowed back the tears along with the lump in her throat as she tried to think of a way out for the both of them. Her eyes scanned around the field trying to block out the chanting witch and the original vampire in their midst. If Carmen thought negatively, if she believed that this was the end then it would crush her soul. She’d feel the emptiness of death before it hit her. She imagined that Klaus wasn't there and that she still had time, but she couldn't forget that she was now something new. She knew she’d hate to be a vampire, but she knew she’d learn to live with it, in fact right now all she wanted was the chance to learn to live with it. If she could just get Elena free from Klaus it would be enough to give her hope that she could still be good.
The hunter rose to her feet, a rush of something pulsed through her entire body like when you stand up too fast and feel dizzy, except she felt powerful, like a surge of courage rand through her veins. She stepped forward, she couldn't stop Klaus but she could stop the witch. She wasn't sure how but she was sure that she had witch cruid in her bag. All she would need would be a personal item from the witch. She was ready to make a run for it, but another step forward and she hit a wall. She was trapped, well and truly trapped. The glint of hope in her eyes faded, her spirit demolished and heart broken. She looked over towards the girl, but this time she couldn't make eye contact. She knew it was her fault that the poor young girl was about to die there with her, and the guilt consumed her mind. She fell to her knees with weakness and misery. A small whisper of a defeated sigh escaping the girls lips. She was no longer angry, but filled with the negativity which would crush her soul. She looked up into the eyes of the vampire as he smirked with a devilish sparkle in his eyes. He stepped towards as the barrier that held her where she was had dropped. “I’m so sorry, Elena” she whispered unable to help the girl as the vampire was soon close to Carmen’s side. She could hear the smugness of a small chuckle coming from the vampire as he heard Carmen words. She took a deep breath and prepared herself for what was coming as the vampire plunged a wooden stake deep into her chest, ironically one of her own. There was a brief moment where she was still standing, thinking and just about able to breathe. She didn't feel the pain, it was over too fast. She closed her eyes as a singer tear ran slowly down her cheek and all she could think about was her friends and her dad.
She could almost hear the sound of the song that would be played. The expression on her dad’s face as her casket was lowered. Her dad; he’d be alone. Granted that the two of them weren't close, but Carmen would still do anything for him. She wished she could tell him how much she loved him and missed him. There were so many unspoken words between the two of them, so many that would now be lost, gone… like she was. Then Ruby, the only person who probably didn't see her as the crazy town hunter. Living with Ruby had changed Carmen, brought out the softer side to her. She hoped that her best friend knew that she loved her, and that she wanted her to be happy and live a normal life. Carmen wanted her to get the hell out of this town and away from these god forsaken vampires. She wanted her to be happy.
She gasped as she felt the steak pierce her heart, she went cold as she felt all life drain away. Her body went weak, collapsing one last time to the ground, and that was the end of her living nightmare.
