setting : heming memorial library ; anytime during the week after amelia's body is discovered status : open to all !
maybe it should have been harder for kiri to return to normal after something as unthinkable as a dead body turning up in her sleepy little town, but she finds herself adjusting easily enough. it helps that amelia was never much of a staple in her life— rather an annoying bit part that popped up now and then to insist upon some semblance of relevancy. her absence isn't sorely missed, and the news, while initially shocking, only confirmed what kiri already suspected. there was no point in dwelling on it further when, contrary to what the last month might have one believe, the world didn't stop for amelia castro. it kept spinning. the days moved forward. everyone had rent to pay and lives to live. it was getting time to move on.
for her part in helping the town do just that, kiri finds herself shelving books at the library. a small, wooden ladder creaks beneath her as she works through the top shelves. she's just about to slot a fairly hefty softcover into place when it all but jumps from her hand, spinning through the air before landing with a dull, unceremonious thud on the dusty carpet below. ❝ shit, ❞ kiri winces, cheeks warming as she twists around to see first the fallen book, then the person standing right beside it. ❝ could you hand me that, please ? ❞
