Late Phases (2014)
This movie was enjoyable because of the emotional story telling, not so much because of the horror. I liked having a blind protagonist, and I like the fact it was set in a retirement community. These all made for a fun flick, even though the werewolf looked very silly.
I don’t think the intention of this film was to be a straight up horror movie. It was more about the emotional content. I was moved by quite a bit of the dialogue. I thought the direction and production were on point, and the cast was full of a ton great character actors like Tom Noonan, who is one of my favorite actors of all time. Plus, Ethan Embry plays a very concerned and honest son, also in a much smaller role Twin Peak’s own Dana Ashbrook plays an ammo salesman!
This movie did not blow me away, but I did enjoy all of the unique ways it told a werewolf story. It was a fun flick, as a straight horror movie it is pretty weak, as a movie with a moving tale of man who is ready to move on from his life and cannot handle the mistakes he made all while he is stuck without vision is pretty moving.
This one was surprisingly good!
I loved the smart ass blind guy! He’s totally from NY or NJ and he just really kicks ass! And he’s blind!
Put it this way he was able to not only kill werewolves but reconcile with his son (on the phone) while preparing a werewolf trap in his backyard.
It does have Ethan Embry... but he’s a total idiot. He doesn’t even help his own dad set up a bed in his newly moved in home. So his BLIND dad has to find the mattress, and set it up in a really messy just moved in home with boxes and shit everywhere. AND, after his father’s dog dies, he just WATCHES his BLIND father dig a grave for the dog, (which takes 2 weeks). And he’s like, “I can’t believe he hasn’t buried him yet.” Yea, he’s really trying, maybe you can lend the guy a fucking hand bro!
Sorry... idiots just bother me.
Anyway, good movie, great main character, love the Werewolf twist in this one.
3.9 STARS
Could’ve been 4 but its not a big blockbuster. But still worth watching.
