Not Unto Death
By Russell Black
Lorenzo is one of the church leaders in the Peruvian jungle church of Paraiso. In April he suffered a terrible accident when his friend lost control of a running chain saw and it cut diagonally across his face. The wound was so severe that he asked his friend to commend his life to Jesus since he felt he had little time to live. His wife would have none of it! She said, “No!” You will not die! I need you in this life to help me raise our children and provide for our family! She told God not to take him. Although the accident happened deep within the jungle, many hours from the nearest city, everything immediately began to come together to get him to a hospital.
The trip is normally at least a 3 hour trip over 1 1/2 hours of dirt roads, a canoe ride across a large river and 30 minutes along a paved road to the nearest hospital. Somehow he made the entire trip in less than 2 hours! When he arrived at the hospital, he had lost almost all the blood in his body. The doctors felt they had little they could do to save him, but here he is 3 months later! Although his eye was damaged, the scars on his face are minimal compared to his injuries. I was able to minister to him last week in Lima and his eye sight improved significantly in his damaged eye. Glory to God!
Latin Impact Ministries seeks to demonstrate and proclaim the love of God to a lost and dying world. We participate in diverse projects especially in Latin America, finding the best ways to share Jesus in real and tangible ways. Through sports ministries; ministerial education and training; pastoral care; multimedia initiatives; construction projects; short term mission trips; humanitarian aid; relief and development work; and much, much more… by all means possible we will tell people how our lives have been changed… and how they can have an authentic encounter with a real Jesus. Wherever possible, Latin Impact Ministries (LIM) works in partnership with the local church, encouraging and supporting local believers. Where there is no church… we seek to plant ones.
