Walking along the foreshore in Newcastle with Aaron and Joanna, a Chilean señor, don Carlos, heard us speaking Spanish and stopped for a chat. Within a couple of minutes, he was singing a Mexican song with Joanna. Singing in public with a stranger, surrounded by strangers, with all of the passion of singing alone in a bedroom. I'm not sure how much sense it makes to Australians... But to many Latin people, there is no reason in the world to hold back from singing a song to someone they've just met. The frame is so powerful, they wouldn't have the self awareness to know what they were doing was a little unusual, a little magical. This is why I love Latin people... This is Latin magic.
