Recycled.lv Ethnography Formed by Anna Aizsilniece and Photographed by Ilze Vanaga
"The aim of this collection is to inspire people to utilise existing resources in a creative way, while retaining their national identity.
The collection Ethnography is created to celebrate the significance, strength and toleration of nature and a being of a primeval woman. It is a calling for women in Latvia and around the world to return to the Mother Earth. To spread the roots deep in the ground in order to be able to bloom and blossom, protect and love. To draw wisdom and strength from the nation's roots.
The source material for the collection is classical linen and woollen clothes which have been created into garments that reflect proportions, colours and feeling of latvian national costumes. By altering clothes their identity has been changed. Trousers have become skirts or shirts, jackets have transformed into shawls, belts – into crowns. Details from bicycles and Soviet time electric appliances as well as coins of our recently changed currency have been used to create accessories and adornments.
Source materials for the collection: 60 belts, 37 shirts, 16 jackets, 14 scarves, 10 jumpers, 4 crocheted mats, 3 coats, 2 frocks, 2 ties, ca. 2000 santims, ca. 1000 resistors, 80 light-bulbs, 65 keys, 20 bicycle cog-wheels and bearings, 4 transformers, 4 chandeliers, a handful of screw nuts."
