I know you hate both the Reboot and the LAU trilogy, but if you had to say one positive thing about each of them what would you say?
I got this asked a lot! In fact I think I’ve answered this before, but I don’t mind to repeat myself again since the faulty Tumblr search won’t show every ask I’ve solved in the past.
In Tomb Raider: Legend what I liked the most was Amanda as a villain. She was very enjoyable, she did shit because she wanted it and didn’t mind the cost. She doesn’t give a fuck about LAUra’s mommy issues and doesn’t care about anyone else’s motivation - which is pretty accurate for a villain - and she has, which is the best, all this time this face of being so done with LAUra’s shit every time she shows up that I couldn’t help but relate to her.
Nobody cares about your mother, LAUra.
I mean, bitch focus her entire life about disappeared mother but won’t waste a single second in going back for the trapped friend. What’s not to hate about it? Unfortunately this character was ruined in Underworld by being eclipsed by pseudo-Natla, an unnecessary copy-pasted return. Shame.
In Tomb Raider: Anniversary I would highlight the beauty of the graphics, but I’m afraid it’s pretty much everything I enjoyed about this game. The rest is absolutely forgettable to me. It’s a beautiful game, but that’s all about it.
In Tomb Raider: Underworld, the best part is undoubtedly the soundtrack. The graphics are also incredibly beautiful and so the diversity of the locations, for once they really struggled to place LAUra in pretty diverse envinroments. Zip, despite not being the canon Zip for me as I only accept the Zip of TR Chronicles, was also very enjoyable. But that’s all about it.
On all the LAU trilogy, some other remarkable details were the new movements and acrobatics, which are very nice but don’t really play any role nor depend on the skill of the player, it’s just for showing up.
Unfortunately when it comes to the reboot, it’s even more difficult to highlight a detail I liked. I can’t say there’s much I liked about it - I only played the 2013 game -. But to be honest, the storyline wasn’t that bad, if it had been a REAL Tomb Raider and not the scrapped shit it was. The story of Himiko was good, but its potential was wasted since in the end she didn’t even get to complete the ritual, thus taking away any chance to witness the result. Reyes and Jonah are also enjoyable as characters, but they had no development or potential fulfilled anyway.
All in all, there are just very irrelevant/minor details that can’t save the whole game(s) for me. When a product is bad, it can’t be everything bad as a whole, there are always nice details you get to enjoy, but in my case there are too scarce to save the whole thing, specially if what you loved about Tomb Raider is practically absent. Shame.
Since somehow I forgot to post this 2 years ago for the 20th anniversary (and again for the 21st), I figured I’d improve it, add in Shadow and post it this year. :P
So Happy 22nd Anniversary Tomb Raider!
Okay... I have opened my Tumbrl after my weekend of intense study and...
What the hell just happened?!
Some rambling annoying reboot lovers that attack us Core Design lovers? Just if Crystal Dynamics is their oxygen and we cannot say OUR Opinion on the Saga right now.
I say my opinion: Tomb Raider now is shit, for me it ended with Angel of Darkness and Lara Croft died in 2003 and she will forever be dead to me.
But The Memory of HER, Lara Croft of Core Design, will live forever, I don’t care about many philosophical phrases the new Lara will say in the next Tomb Raider games. That Lara is not Lara.
Accept That, But I see that you’re too blinded by the graphics or the realisim of those games, I cannot help but be dissapointed by the fandom, the Tomb Raider fandom is a shitty fandom, let me be blunt. But some people are not that shitty.
Some people don’t spread shit on people who love Angel of Darkness and also some people don’t spread shit on people who loved Core Design’s TR.
Crystal Dynamics is not your oxygen that resurrected Lara Croft from the “dissapointing” Angel of Darkness. The real dissapointment is not AoD. The Disappointment is those fans who wanted nothing more than realisim.
Some people said to me, An hardcore classic and AoD Fan, that the Reboot is a lot better, a lot emotional than the classics and AoD ones...
Let me be blunt;
-I Cry everytime at AoD’s Ending.
-I cry everytime Kurtis get stabbed in the chest.
-I get emotional when I play The Lost Valley on Tomb Raider I or The Great Wall on Tomb Raider II
-I get emotional when I finish Madubu’s Gorge after suffering hell in Tomb Raider III
Giving emotions is not only through Cutscenes and voices... Believe me, I study theatre, diction and singing... and even the unsaid words, the body language, the facial expressions, the locations can give anything.
On Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (As well as the LAU Trilogy) I didn’t feel that, It felt to monotonus.. blank. Expecially the voice acting.
I didn’t liked Keeley Hawes perfomaces TBH (Even through in the Italian ones, Elda Olivieri, Lara’s Voice in all Tomb Raiders except Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of The Tomb Raider witch is dubbed by Benedetta Ponticelli who is far better than Camilla Luddington TBH), I prefer Jonell Elliot because she gave (expecially in AoD) the perfect Lara in my opinion, I felt her personality on my skin with her when I listened to the English version the first time.
Okay I’ve added my two cents, Anons if you want to attack me go on! I’m not butthurt, you will not break me because I’m strong, You will not shatter me in billions of pieces. I don’t give anything but a fuck of your ramblings through US Core Design followers.
With that said, I’m out. Thank you for reading me through xD

How would you compare classic Lara's body type compared to her other iterations?
Wait... what?
Maybe I’m not getting your ask, but why would I compare classic Lara’s body type with LAUra or Laraboot - if that’s indeed what you’re asking? How is that relevant in any way?
I think the closest I’ve been to touch this issue was when I wrote The Girl With The Big Breasts: On The Sexualization of Lara Croft. Where I basically say Classic Lara is not to be judged on her physical appearance because what really matters is her spirit and wits. And lament also about her being sexualized by Eidos first, then Crystal Dynamics, but the ones unjustly carrying the burnt being Core Design and nowadays fandom judging and blaming the classic character on it - which is incredibly misogynistic considering it comes from crowds that consider themselves “feminists”.
Apart from this I really have no desire to debate on Lara’s physical body. It never mattered to me. And I don’t know why should I compare her with LAUra or Laraboot - who are entirely different characters. Yes, the three of them have two arms and legs and a face, lol, but to compare their physical bodies for me is like comparing myself with my neighbour next door.
If anything, the treatment their respective creators and developers have given to them is different. Classic Lara was extremely appealing and attractive physically speaking but her charming spirit and wits kinda over-exceeded this aspect; despite the sexist media won’t acknowledge it, of course. LAUra was made even more sensual and exuberant but the charm and wits of Core Lara were gone - her personal backstory and lines greatly suffering from it, turning her into a shallow and boring character. And finally, Laraboot is something else, her feminine features being mostly suppressed to appeal to pseudofeminist - actually, misogynistic - crowd who thinks being attractive or good looking is not empowering for a woman; but without giving her any special wits or charms, making her actually vulnerable and suffering-driven, thus turning her into a bland and even more boring character if possible.
As you can see, physical bodies practically play no role here. As far as I’m concerned, engaging in a debate comparing the bodies of the three characters would be as uninteresting and irrelevant as the time this fandom is wasting asking when the dual pistols will return.
Remember that TRAOD teaser when Lara was asked which was her best weapon at her arsenal and she answered, “My mind, obviously”? Well. That’s all that matters when it comes to her. :)
