That Redditor was wrong. However, the way they were wrong is pretty well-suited to Twin Peaks, and especially to Coop and Diane + their relationship, I think.

So we're in the lodge. We all know better than to ask questions, but Coop doesn't. He heard once that his name and Diane's meant the same thing, and he liked the idea. Years later, behind some formidable curtains, things get a prodigious bit more intense.

9. worst part of canon

Everything to do with Cunoesse. Worst as in heartbreaking. That poor kid was written to get the shitty end of the stick no matter what. And then they just... do nothing with her. Cuno even begs to go with Harry and Jean because he's scared of her (that's how I read into it.)

10. worst part of fanon

To me? Making Kim some kind of badass when he was younger. The guy is a dork. He does crossword puzzles and was a stickler for the rules - even more so when he was younger apparently. Plus he was a proud moralist when he was young. Those types of people are always kinda party poopers. (Which Kim is apparently proud of his party pooping ways).

Gonna call myself out on this one. Cunoesse. My own blorbofication. The kid is messed up. She's scary. She gets manic when you can take a shot at her.

Hello! Will there be guidelines as to what "past" and especially "future" will entail? How much will the zine present a unified vision of events Vs how much will it be each creator following their own interpretations and plot bunnies? Thanks in advance!

Hi! Yes, when contributor applications open, more concrete periods will be given to define what falls into the past and future eras (e.g. whether or not Sacred and Terrible Air is qualifiable content). This will primarily be influenced by interest check comments.

Given that every player’s experience with DE is slightly different, the idea is that contributors will be free to follow their own interpretations. However, pitches will be selected so that we can present an overarching narrative that ultimately ends on a hopeful note, to follow the “life again” theme of the zine. This is subject to change, but describes the current direction.

Conceptualization, Empathy?

Conceptualisation: what further exploration of the world or characters do you want to see most? (in an official or fan capacity)

THE PALE, DEFINITELY THE PALE. Apart from that, I don't think I want any continuation of anyone's story in an official way but I especially love fanfics that explore cuno's and cunoesse's life more and fanfics that dive more into kim's family and his complicated relationship to his heritage. And I also can't get enough of the absolute bonkers worldbuilding. A mountain that's almost 19 kilometers high?? A latitude with 25 hours in a day??? just give me more of that please.

Empathy: who is the character of all time? explain. Nooooo don't make me choose. There are so many good characters. HDB of course is in so many ways the most character of all time but I think I am going to go with the other boring answer and say Kim. But not the woobified version of him but the snarky sarcastic asshole cop. The man who appears to be the definition of composure himself but who is always just one second away from snapping. This man listens to speedfreaks fm while commiting 10 different traffic violations. He becomes a pinball master at 37 so they put him out of juvie. Truly, such a character. But the most important and interesting thing to me is his relationship to moralism and to his own heritage and I would loooooove to see more exploration of this.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I guess I'd have to say Love for a Face! I can't tell you how much I agonized over it and second guessed myself and asked for help from trusted beta readers and just, in general, hung A LOT of expectations on it that were, I think, mostly met!

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Maybe The Sojourners' Responsibilities, in that it actually got a few comments from people outside my usual circles? Otherwise Love for a Face again.... amazing what writing for a big fandom can do....

6. Favorite title you used

If I don't use Love for a Face AGAIN (look, I just thought a lot of things worked about it!) then I think Holy Messengers of Justice or Something Like That qualifies. We've got Emma's Holy Night thing, we have the Justice Minister connection, we have Emma's darling angel tie-in.... lot of layered meaning in that title! Plus it's silly; always a plus.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Oh, undoubtedly Bailey and Bailey's friend from When in Doubt. Not only did I have to write flirty dialogue, I had to avoid using a name and avoid making it TOO abstract until the end. It was a fun one to write but I think I have new grey hairs after writing it!

3: Best game you’ve ever played?

Everything about Axiom Verge is basically designed to appeal specifically to me, personally: exploration-based Metroidvania, biomechanical body horror, diegetic glitches, transhumanist themes, soundtrack that makes my dopamine spike, coherent story emerging from a whole cloud of tantalising mysteries about the uniquely and appropriately weird cosmology of the setting, the endearingly-characterised science hero who’s doing his best to do the right thing despite being thrown into an entirely new and alien situation that raises uncomfortable concerns about who he is as a person in multiple meanings of that expression. (Trace spends the entire game asking questions first and trying to not shoot at all until he understands the situation, and as a result it feels incredibly well-earned when, and from whom, he finally decides he’s heard enough.) And, of course, the premise where ultimately the exotic nightmares are good(-ish) and you’re trying to protect/avenge them from a compelling but much more mundane evil. :D :D :D There is so much attention to detail put into every facet.

Other assorted considerations: My obsessions with Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, and American McGee’s Alice series have all been undermined by the fact that I’m really bad at them. I wish Antichamber went on forever and I want all my life advice presented in the form of surreal puzzles with no loss conditions. Riven, Yume Nikki, Portal, etc are great but not this-game-it-was-made-for-me great. I have never actually played a Kirby game.

23: Biggest disappointment you’ve had in gaming?

I have never actually played a Kirby game

What I wanted from Death Stranding was not at all what Death Stranding wanted to do. But that had less to do with the game itself than it did with me wanting it to be Silent Hills; if it weren’t for that prior disappointment, I’d’ve probably had much less interest in it in the first place.

27: Has there ever been a moment that has made you cry?

It’s generally quite difficult for art to make me cry on the outside, so I treasure anything that can. But there is this story moment from Fallen London I experienced at just the right time:

You put the cross in the Curate's hands so he can feel the weight of the gold. At first, he looks at you as if you were mad, but your questions are reasonable. After all, is God measured in right angles? Isn't a wooden cross as good as a golden one? Think of the good works that the money could be put to. The poor it could feed. The children it could clothe.

When the priest takes a hammer to the cross, he does so with the certainty of a saint.
