Cactus Jack vs Vader on WCW Worldwide. Texas Death Match. This is wild. Cactus was wrestling everywhere in 94. When I was looking up wrestlers to be in this tournament, I ran into Cactus on all sorts of events through this year. Worldwide was not an A list show often, but they did have matches like this from time to time, main eventers in quick hard hitting matches. This is a time capsule because we see one chair shot lead to a pin, which is unheard of these days. Also the finish, looks like it legit knocks out the loser. I won’t give it away.

In doing research about 1994 in wrestling I came across Bull Nakano’s match with Alundra Blayze of course in the WWF but a few months before that in Japan and even a few months before the yesterday’s aforementioned Douglas/ECW birth of "Extreme” moment you have this stellar match up. Take a look at the slap fights, the back to back piledrivers in the ring and out, the hatred between tag martners, the crowd heat. This was happening at the same time as yesterday’s match up! Where is this all leading?

Let’s talk about the year 1994 in wrestling. Historical for this guy here and when he threw down the NWA world title after winning a tournament and declared himself the ECW World Champion and birthing Extreme Championship wrestling and setting into motion the booking of 90s era wrestling; the Hardcore Revolution, the Attitude Era, Crash TV.

The point of this first series is to highlight the transformative year of 1994 in wrestling, but in some of the areas you wouldn’t look at first glance. I am trying to find hidden gems on YouTube that are free or free for now until they get taken down. Then we end with a nice surprise that introduces a unique twist our blog brings in hopes of entertaining you.

First up Shane Douglas. Rather than link to the magical night on August 27 1994, that I reference above. Here is a link to an in-ring confrontation with Sherri Martel that seems tame by today’s standards but got enormous heart back in 94. I think this is February 94.
