Daily(ish) journaling with Day One and Launch Center Pro
I did something a little geeky a few weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to writing about it. I feel like I've written about how I'm using Day One to write a book-length letter to our kids previously1. I figured out a way to make it a little easier on myself.
The problem with writing the book in Day One was that I'd forget to write. And when I did remember, I didn't always know what to write about. I stumbled onto the Templates section on Day One's site. There are a few Daily Summary Launch Center Pro actions there, but none of them were exactly what I wanted. So, I dug into Launch Center Pro to get a feel for creating the action. Here's what I ended up with.
The action is called "Today":
When I tap it, it asks for a title for the post:
Then it asks, "What did you do today?"
Then, "Did you learn anything new?"
Then, "Did the boys do anything fun?"
Then, "What are you grateful for today?"
When I'm done answering that, I hit Launch and it takes me into Day One with the text in the new entry.
At that point, I can add a picture and save it. The other thing I've added to the Launch Center Pro action that starts this whole train rolling is an alarm. At 8pm every night, it pops up on my phone and asks me to write my post. Sometimes I'm busy and I ignore it. Other times, one tap on the notification gets it started.
The search on my blog here is broken, otherwise I'd find a link. Sorry. Not sure why it's broken, but I don't have the energy or knowhow to fix it. ↩︎
