laundry rooms are always odd places. inbetween places, hidden places, places where the sounds are quiet and rumbling and fade to a background haze. the sounds hide the noise of things moving. of things attracted to keepsakes lost in pockets or dropped on floors, fallen from baskets. and to unwitting students, who upon seeing too many shadows in the hallway, realize their salt and iron somehow wound up in the laundry.
