The School of Music started in 1906 with no departmental status. In 1919, P.G. Clapp became the head of the School of Music. When he arrived, the School of Music was housed in three buildings located at the corner of Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue. In 1932, the music department moved to the refurbished former isolation hospital at the corner of Jefferson and Gilbert street.
