assign laura & nautica & blackarachnia pens and inks and utensils
Her everyday carry includes one (1) BIC X-Tra Smooth Mechanical Pencil and one (1) Staples ProGel™ Retractable Gel Pen.
She does not like fountain pens. She thinks they are frivolous and does not see why someone would pay upwards of $5 (or even multiple thousands of dollars) for a writing utensil when you can buy perfectly decent pens and pencils for much less. She does not care about conspicuous consumption. She has also been using the same mechanical pencil and ballpoint gel pen for like a decade so even the idea of buying one $20 pen you actually keep track of (instead of a dozen pens for $20 that you then lose) seems stupid to her.
That is not to say she does not have a fountain pen. She does. She has a Namiki Emperor Fountain Pen - Kylin, gifted to her by Akihiro. If you don't want to click that link, it is $12,000 (USD), handmade in Japan, and has an 18 karat gold nib. (But you should click through--it's a gorgeous work of art.)
Akihiro got it for her because of the symbolic meaning--many of the qualities that a kirin (<- different Anglicization that I think is more common) represents are aspirational for her. He is also a huge proponent of conspicuous consumption.
She can't use it because she can't write in cursive (which really improves the experience of using a fountain pen), and it's fairly heavy. Since she was never properly taught to write as a child, she's pretty clumsy with writing utensils, that's problematic for her. Also, it does not fit her aesthetic. At all.
I think there are several officially licensed Wolverine™ fountain pens that range from $50 to $700. Gabby owns one of each, but I think she just displays them.
Laura's signature ink is standard black.
She does not strike me as a fountain pen person per se but I do think she knows a lot about them. (Pretend robots use pens) She either already knew a lot about pens before joining the Lost Light crew due to her rich and varied lifestyle, or she got really into them in a hypothetical way once she was on the Lost Light because Rung is a pen dude and she was sharing in his interest.
Her standard pen is a Jinhao 993 shark pen (which I personally recommend) with a purple body and light blue head.
She's matching with Riptide. He has one with a light blue body and a purple head. They're interchangeable. I think she'd like that they're cheap (genuinely--they're a normal pen price) and light weight. They're also good quality and fun. I think she's gotten them as gifts for non-Rung people before.
Signature ink: Diamine Majestic Purple.
Admittedly I only chose Diamine because I myself have a Diamine brand signature ink but, like, whatever. I don't think she'd go in for something with a shimmer--they don't work well with the shark pen, IIRC.
Ehehehehe. I do genuinely think she has a fountain pen collection with many many goth pens but I will pick an everyday pen for her.
The Pelikan M200 Fountain Pen (Red Marbled) has not actually been rleased yet but i think it suits her. I am also like, really hoping that it's actually decent, because I think it's at the upper bound of what she'd spend on a pen. Unfortunately, I don't really think she'd spend thousands of dollars on something like the Sailor Kiss of the Spider Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pen... though she definitely wants to.
Signature ink: Wearingeul The Hound of the Baskervilles.
In addition to a pen collection, she also has an ink collection, mainly consisting of samples of a variety of reds with some blacks, golds, and greens thrown in for good measure. This is what she fills her regular pen with, though.
Also, since I linked to several things on here--this is not an endorsement of any product or brand! If you want to buy any of these products, do your own research into sellers & etc.
